What Is the Kankakee Regional Land Bank Authority?

The Land Bank acquires tax delinquent and abandoned properties for the purpose of returning them to productive use. 

What About the Owed Taxes?

Back taxes are abated once the Land Bank holds the deed to a property. Back taxes will not transfer to the new owner upon sale. 

How Are Properties Chosen?

The Land Bank targets properties which offer the most potential for rehabilitation and meet our purchasing criteria. 

What Defines a Property As Neglected?

Illinois vacant and abandoned legislation said a community can declare a property as “neglected” if it meets several criteria, which could include being unoccupied for six months or more, being boarded-up, with utilities cut-off, code violations, unfinished construction and unpaid property taxe

Where Will the Money Come From?

ARPA funds grants and proceeds from property sales make up the bulk of Land Bank funding. However, donations are accepted and are tax deductible. To donate funds or a property email or call for more information.
